My adventures in another world with my brother Chapter 9 Job

The next morning, we woke up early and headed down to the diner, which was buzzing with life. People were eating their breakfast, placing orders, and, as is common in any world, a few were already day drinking. We sat down and had our breakfast—scrambled eggs from a bird with an unpronounceable name and sausages made of who knows what. Afterward, we headed to the Adventurer's Guild to pick up our registry cards.

The cards read as follows:

Deserter

Rank: G

Species: Demihuman

Level: 35

Age: 29

Occupation: Offensive Wizard

Overon

Rank: G

Species: Demihuman

Level: 37

Apparently, appraisal is a rare skill that not many people possess. Luckily for us, we have it. It turns out you can’t appraise someone of a higher level than yourself, which means our true status remains hidden. The problem is our attire. Overon’s body armor isn’t very common, and I look more like a nobleman or wealthy merchant than an actual adventurer, which garnered quite a few awkward stares.

As we returned to the inn with our new guild cards, we settled into our room to finally take a good look at our stats in this new world. Using appraisal on ourselves, we saw:

Our stats remained impressively high, similar to the game, though now presented as numerical values instead of levels. This was new to us, and it gave us a visual understanding of how vastly powerful we were compared to the inhabitants of this world. For instance, the strongest people in the Adventurer's Guild were Elarion and the guild master, Garrick.

Garrick

  • Vehicle Handling: 0/0

  • Mentality: Good

  • Shooting: 29/100

  • Mana: 1,100/1,200

Their stats were modest, and they had not even fully leveled up or maxed out their skills. These were the strongest in the adventuring guild. To give a good perspective, we requested the stats of a dragon in this world, which was a strange request, but apparently, they had it, a historical record from 500 years ago.

Young Dragon

Level: 70

Species: Red Dragon

Class: None

Skills: Fire Magic, Fire Resistance, Health Boost, Shield Magic

Race Skills: Hellfire Breath

Titles: Tyrant

Stats:

  • Stamina: 600/600

  • Strength: 1,000/1,000

  • Racial Skill: 90/100

  • Mentality: Chaotic

  • Shooting: 29/100

  • Mana: 4,000/4,000

Dragons were significantly more powerful than the people of this world, but considering that they were known as the strongest species and generally feared throughout the land, this was understandable.

As I turned to Overon we started to discuss what was next for us on our journey.

"Let's take an escort job," I suggested. "I heard there's a human kingdom with a vast library containing knowledge from thousands of years. We could learn a lot there."

Overon’s eyes lit up. "That sounds perfect. We should find a job that takes us there."

With a plan in mind, we prepared to head back to the Adventurer's Guild to find an escort mission that would lead us to this kingdom.

My adventures in another world with my brother Chapter 8 Adapting

A few hours went by, and I managed to gather bits and pieces of information. For one, our races were known as mythical beings thought to be extinct. Another revelation was that the average levels in this world were surprisingly low; commoners, meaning everyday people, usually ranged between level 5 and 15. Adventurers were typically level 20 to 40 on average, with only old veterans reaching the 50s. Babies started at level 0, meaning everyone began their journey from there. The world record was held by a party known as the Five Fangs, who were said to be in their 70s. Revealing our true levels and races would undoubtedly cause massive panic.

Fortunately, when it came to our races, there was an option known as "Demi-humans," which, as the name implies, were individuals who were half-human and half-something else. Apparently, interspecies marriages were quite common in this world, resulting in many unknown races. When we were called back to the registry, we made sure to correct our applications, listing our race as Demi-human and our levels as being in the 30-40 range to avoid suspicion. Once we were done, we were shown to a nearby inn called the “Buckson Dinner and Inn,” where we decided to stay the night.

In our room, we became concerned about cash and began brainstorming solutions. That's when Overon had an idea.

"Hey Deserter," Overon began, sitting on the edge of the bed, "we need to figure out our money situation. We can't exactly work regular jobs or go on low-level quests forever."

"You're right," I replied, pacing the small room. "But what can we do? We can't reveal our true levels or identities."

Overon grinned. "Remember our dimensional storage skill? It has all our stuff from the game, including our money. We just need to figure out how to access it here."

"Dimensional storage... I hadn't thought of that," I said, rubbing my chin. "It’s worth a try. Let’s see if we can open it."

We both closed our eyes and concentrated, trying to summon the familiar interface from the game. After a few moments of focusing, I felt a subtle shift in the air. I opened my eyes to see a small, glowing portal hovering in front of us.

"Looks like it worked," Overon said, reaching into the portal. He pulled out a handful of coins, which shimmered and transformed into the local currency right before our eyes.

"Convenient," I said, examining the coins. "It seems our game money automatically converts into this world's coinage. This means we’re loaded."

Overon chuckled. "Yeah, we had millions in the game. We should be set for a while. But we need to be careful about how we use it. Flashing too much wealth could attract unwanted attention."

"Agreed," I nodded. "And we still have to conceal our true identities. Our races and levels would cause chaos if anyone found out. We're not just high-level; we're practically gods compared to the people here."

Overon leaned back against the wall, his expression thoughtful. "We’ll need to stay low-key and blend in. Use our power only when absolutely necessary. And we must keep refining our control."

"Right," I said. "We should focus on gathering more information about this world and its power structure. The Adventurer's Guild is a good start, but we’ll need to explore other places too."

Overon nodded. "Let’s also keep practicing our skills. We might be overpowered, but if we can't control our abilities, we’re just as vulnerable as anyone else."

"Exactly," I agreed. "Let's take it one step at a time. For now, we have enough money to get by. Tomorrow, we'll visit the Adventurer's Guild and see what opportunities we can find. Maybe even sign up for a few quests to build our reputation without raising suspicion."

"Sounds like a plan," Overon said, his usual grin returning. "Now, let’s get some rest. We’ve got a lot to do tomorrow."

With that, we settled in for the night, feeling a bit more prepared for the challenges ahead. Our journey in this new world was just beginning, and we had to stay vigilant, adapt, and above all, keep our true nature hidden.

My adventures in another world with my brother Chapter 7 Magic control

As Overon and I caught our breath after the sparring session, a tall, lean elf with an air of quiet confidence approached me. His hair was a deep shade of green, and his eyes sparkled with a mixture of curiosity and wisdom. He extended a hand in greeting.

"I'm Elarion, one of the instructors here at the guild," he said, his voice smooth and melodic. "I couldn’t help but notice your performance earlier. There's something about you... a latent talent for magic. You carry a great deal of power within you."

I shook his hand, trying to keep my surprise in check. "I'm Deserter. I always knew I had a bit of magic but I’ve never had any formal training. Can you teach me?"

Elarion smiled with a hint of surprise. "a bit of magic? From my perspective, you’re quite a powerhouse, but of course. Magic is not just about power, but about control and understanding. Follow me."

He led me to a quieter corner of the training hall, away from the noise and bustle of the other adventurers. Elarion gestured for me to sit on a wooden bench, and he sat opposite me.

"Magic flows through all things," he began, his tone instructive yet gentle. "To harness it, you must first feel it. Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Imagine the magic within you as a river, flowing through your veins."

I did as he instructed, closing my eyes and taking a deep breath. I tried to envision the magic within me, but it felt elusive, just out of reach.

"Relax," Elarion said softly. "Don’t force it. Let it come to you naturally. Feel the energy in your blood, the way it pulses and moves."

I focused on my breathing, trying to sense the flow of magic within me. Slowly, I began to feel a tingling sensation, like a gentle current running through my veins.

"Good," Elarion encouraged. "Now, direct that energy to your hands. Imagine it flowing from your core, through your arms, and into your fingertips."

I concentrated, visualizing the magic as a stream of light moving through my body. My hands began to tingle, and I felt a surge of power building within them.

"Open your eyes," Elarion instructed. "Focus that energy into a simple spell. Try to create a small flame."

I opened my eyes and concentrated on my hands. A small, flickering flame appeared above my palm, wavering unsteadily. Elarion nodded approvingly.

"Well done. You have a natural affinity for fire magic. Now, tell me, do you have any idea what other types of magic you might be able to use?"

I hesitated for a moment, not wanting to reveal too much. "I think I can use elemental magic. Fire, water, earth, air... I feel like I can connect with all of them."

Elarion's eyes widened slightly in surprise. "That's quite a rare talent. Elemental mastery is no small feat. Let's test another element. Close your eyes again and focus on the flow of magic, but this time, imagine the cool, steady strength of water."

I closed my eyes and concentrated on the sensation of water, its fluidity and power. I felt a cool energy building within me, different from the fiery warmth of the flame.

"Now, open your eyes and direct that energy into your hand," Elarion instructed.

I opened my eyes and focused on my hand. A small sphere of water formed above my palm, shimmering and pure. Elarion smiled, clearly impressed.

"Excellent. You truly do have a gift for elemental magic. But there's something more... something deeper within you. A potential for a rare and powerful form of magic. Have you ever felt a different kind of energy, something tied to your very essence?"

I thought about it, recalling the times in the game when I had used blood magic. It had felt powerful and instinctive, almost like an extension of my will. I decided to hint at it without giving too much away.

"Sometimes, I feel an energy that’s... darker, more intense. I’m not sure what it is, but it feels like it’s tied to my core."

Elarion nodded thoughtfully. "I see. That sounds like it could be some kind of dark element magic, a rare and potent form of magic. Let's see if you can access it. Close your eyes once more and focus on the blood flowing through your veins."

Although he wasn’t entirely right he wasn’t wrong either as what he was referring to was my blood magic, which was the special racial magic Demonoids had in the game.

I did feel a pang of anxiety at the mention of the dark magic, but I did as he said. I closed my eyes and focused on the blood in my veins, feeling its rhythm and pulse.

"Imagine drawing that energy out and shaping it into a weapon," Elarion continued. "Feel the flow of your blood, and direct its power."

I concentrated, visualizing the blood in my veins. Slowly, I imagined it flowing out of my body and forming into a blade.

"Now, open your eyes and manifest the weapon," Elarion said.

I opened my eyes and, to my shock, a crimson blade materialized in my hand, glowing with an eerie light. The power coursing through it was immense, almost overwhelming.

"Careful," Elarion cautioned. "Dark magic is powerful, but it can be dangerous if not controlled properly."

I tried to focus, to control the power of the blade, but it felt like trying to hold back a raging river. The blade pulsed with energy, growing brighter and more intense. Suddenly, it exploded in a burst of crimson light, sending shockwaves through the training hall.

Elarion shielded his eyes from the blast, and when the light faded, he looked at me with a mix of awe and concern. "You have incredible power, Deserter. But you must learn to control it. We have much work to do."

I nodded, feeling both exhilarated and humbled. The path ahead was clear. I had to master my abilities, not just for my sake, but for the safety of everyone around me.

My adventures in another world with my brother Chapter 6 Council of Elders, and the adventurer guild

Inside the grand hall, the atmosphere was charged with curiosity and a hint of tension. The council of elder elves, each with an air of wisdom and authority, watched us intently. The elder with silver hair who had stepped forward to greet us motioned for us to sit at a long, beautifully crafted table.

"Please, sit," he said, his voice calm yet commanding. "We have many questions, as I am sure you do as well."

Overon and I took our seats, feeling slightly out of place in this elegant setting. Roxana stood nearby, her posture relaxed yet alert, as if ready to spring into action at a moment's notice.

"My name is Eldrin," the silver-haired elder began. "I am the head of this council. You have already met Commander Roxana. Now, tell us more about yourselves and how you came to be in the Great Alvin Forest."

I took a deep breath, deciding to keep our true identities hidden for now. "We are travelers," I began cautiously. "I am Deserter, and this is my brother Overon. We were on a journey and got lost, eventually finding ourselves in this forest."

Eldrin's expression remained neutral, though I could sense his curiosity. "This area is usually blocked off to outsiders. How did you get past the outer defenses? There should have been a wide variety of beasts in that area to deter intruders."

"We honestly have no idea," I said, shaking my head. "We just... found ourselves here."

Roxana stepped forward, her eyes narrowing slightly. "It's strange that you managed to get this far without encountering any of our defenses. But it seems fate has brought you here."

Overon, leaned forward with a friendly smile. "We didn't mean to cause any trouble. We're just trying to find our way and understand more about this place. Could you tell us more about the forest and its inhabitants?"

Eldrin exchanged a glance with Roxana before answering. "The Great Alvin Forest is home to many ancient and powerful creatures. Our city is one of the few safe havens amidst the wilderness. We protect it fiercely, as you have seen with our encounter with the chimera."

Roxana added, "Speaking of which, we are grateful for your help. Your intervention was timely and saved many lives."

I nodded, trying to keep the conversation focused on gathering information. "We're glad we could help. What can you tell us about the threats you face here? The chimera seemed particularly dangerous."

Eldrin sighed, his expression growing serious. "The chimera is one of many threats. Dark forces have been stirring in the forest, and we have been fighting to keep our city safe. But it is becoming increasingly difficult."

"Is there a place we can learn more about this world?" I asked. "We'd like to understand more about the dangers and perhaps even help."

Roxana's expression softened. "You could visit the Adventurers' Guild. It's a place where travelers and warriors gather, take on missions, and learn about the world. I can take you there."

Overon and I exchanged a glance. This seemed like a good opportunity to blend in and gather more information. "That sounds perfect," I said. "We'd appreciate that."

Roxana nodded and led us out of the hall. As we walked through the bustling streets of the elven city, she pointed out various landmarks and shared snippets of history. The city was a marvel of architecture, with towering trees woven into the structures and glowing lights that gave it an ethereal feel.

Finally, we arrived at the Adventurers' Guild. The building was large and imposing, with a sign that depicted a sword crossed with a staff. Inside, the hall was filled with adventurers of various races and sizes, all engaged in lively conversation or studying mission boards.

Roxana guided us to the front desk, where a dragonborn woman with gleaming scales and piercing eyes greeted us. "These two wish to join the guild," Roxana explained.

The dragonborn nodded, handing us forms to fill out. "Welcome to the Adventurers' Guild. I am Syra. Please fill out these forms, and we'll get you registered."

As we filled out the forms, I couldn't help but notice the levels displayed on a nearby board. The highest level listed was 50, which seemed incredibly low compared to our own. I nudged Overon and pointed it out. He gave me a knowing look, and we silently agreed to keep our true levels a secret.

Once registered, Syra handed us our guild badges. "You’re now members of the guild. Feel free to take on missions from the board, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask."

Before we could respond, a large figure approached. A dragonborn, much older and more imposing than Syra, with scars crisscrossing his scales. "New recruits, huh?" he rumbled, his voice deep and gravelly. "I'm Garrick, one of the guild’s senior members. You two look like you’ve seen some action. Ever thought about some training to hone your skills?"

Overon grinned. "Training sounds good. We could always use more practice."

Garrick's eyes narrowed slightly. "Let's see what you've got. Follow me to the training room."

We followed Garrick down a corridor to a large training hall. Various adventurers were sparring, practicing their skills. Garrick turned to us. "Show me what you can do."

Overon stepped forward, cracking his knuckles. Suddenly, a powerful strike that sent a training dummy flying across the room, splintering it into pieces.

Garrick's eyes widened. "Impressive," he said, a hint of awe in his voice. "But remember, power is nothing without control. Let's see how well you handle yourselves in real combat."

As we prepared for the sparring session, I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation. We had to be careful not to reveal too much, but this was also our chance to learn more about this world and its challenges.

My adventures in another world with my brother Chapter 18 Overon's Misfortune

The morning sunlight spilled through silk-draped windows, golden and warm against bare skin. Overon blinked. Then blinked again. He was in a...
